wrapping up the week

"She sells seashells by the sea shore."

My mom had a star fish necklace(which the picture doesn't do justice) for a friend's birthday gift, but needed some other items to put with it.  She then came across the beach tote which ended up setting the theme!  She added a pair of flops and cold drink holder in the same color family as the tote to round out the gift.

To wrap up the gifts and carry the purple and pink beach theme, I decided to stamp shells onto some plain brown wrapping.  I already had the stamp making kit, so I searched the internet for some simple shell shapes.

Per the instructions with the stamp kit I cut out the stamps and set to work embellishing the plain brown wrap.  If you don't want to purchase the stamp making kit, the starfish shape is simple enough that you could even carve it out of a potato!

The wrap was finished up with some simple brown raffia.  I think the natural fibers of the raffia enhance the beachy theme more than some traditional ribbon would have.

Cutting your own stamps may seem like a lot of work, but keep in mind that something generic like shells you will be able to use on future projects as well.  It will be time well spent and you have a one-of-a-kind stamp!
